All be it, joys complicated by the tensions and grief that come with life in Nigeria. Abba layers emphasis on community and everyday rituals with a playful soundtrack composed in the spirit of ‘00s Nollywood dramas that remind the artist of things we might overlook that matter most in the end.”

The film was made with a grant from the ‘Creating Joy: Art, Refusal and the Worlding of Black Lives’ project- a radical digital space that explores Black diasporic life through artmaking.

God said, let them be touched. And tenderness pooled at the seams, giving weight to intimacy so it could stay in their lives… 
And intimacy sat with them at kitchen tables as sizzling plantain cubes were pinched from frying sieves; and sweating glasses of water passed from hand to hand. Touching both the animated and the things whose languages we do not know. Touching guts and touching shoulder. Touched by palms and skin, tongue and eyes.
